"Here we are , Uncle Zeek."
-
Beyond the deep forest,
Out in the open field,
Stands a house that belongs to the Old Moose Zeek.
He writes stories for a living.
Today is the deadline for his latest work.
He has been up all night,
Keeping his eyes glued to his manuscript.
Onto the last sentence,
He sees the sun creeping up above the forest. -
Sitting on the trunk outside,
Absentmindedly staring into the sky,
He hears a rustling sound.
“Here we are, Uncle Zeek!”
Two sheep came out of the bush,
Gaz with a basket and Moz with a flower crown.
They are siblings living on the other end of the forest.
“We brought you a homemade spinach pie!”
“It’s your favorite, Uncle Zeek!”
Telling them not to disturb him,
Zeek reluctantly let these little guests in. -
He reviews his manuscript from beginning to end while Gaz freely doodles with crayons and Moz diligently presses flowers they picked on the way.
These little guests made sure not to disturb him.
...until there was a bunch of chaos in the room.
Moz ended up scattering books - books of just the right size for flower pressing.
Gaz could not help showing off this fresh masterpiece to Zeek. -
ust when they wrapped up their own business and decluttered the room,
Everyone got a growling stomach.
It is snack o’clock!
Gaz carries the pie.
Moz carries cups of milk.
And Zeek pours coffee.
The next moment,
Moz tripped over the edge of the carpet and fell.
The milk instantly flew and landed straight onto Zeek’s just-finished manuscript.
-
Zeek panicked.
Moz and Gaz also panicked.
Now, the snack time has to wait.
Flicking Moz and Gaz outside the house,
Zeek rushes to put up all the wet pages in the room.
In the backyard,
Gaz and Moz start collecting flowers,
feeling a slight weight of guilt in their hearts. -
Exhausted from this much unexpected event,
Zeek crashed on the couch and passed out.
That was when Gaz and Moz came back inside the house with a bunch of star-shaped ornaments in their hands, made with the flowers they collected in the backyard.
They put them up on Zeek’s horns,
Making a starry sky around him.
Content with the work,
They slowly and gradually drowsed off by Zeek. -
Knock, knock
There was a knock on the door.
It was Bonzoo, the Boar, coming to pick up Zeek’s manuscript from the other end of the forest.
“Oh, hi, little kids. How’s everything? Where is Zeek?”
“Well, he is in his dreams...”
Bonzoo saw the hanging pages in the room and immediately made sense of it.
Gaz and Moz decided to serve Bonzoo the spinach pie that has been put aside for a hot minute.
Bonzoo ended up losing one’s mind over this rich, flavorful pie,
Devouring one piece after another. -
Onto the last bite of the last piece was when Zeek arose from his power nap.
After an apology for being late,
He jumped straight into the business talk.
Bonzoo was tempted to ask about the hanging ornaments throughout, but was hesitant to do so, seeing Zeek was so stressed. -
The business talk is over.
Bonzoo is set homebound with Zeek’s manuscript in one’s hands.
It is about time Gaz and Moz also went home.
These little sheep once again apologized to Zeek and climbed up on Bonzoo.
As Bonzoo started walking, they, on Bonzoo’s shoulders, turned around and said,
“We’ll come again, Uncle Zeek!”
They never stopped waving at Zeek until they completely disappeared into the darkness of the forest.
Zeek saluted them with a subtle hand raise. -
Now, the solace of being alone is upon him.
He slumped onto his bed and fell sound asleep.
That night, Zeek had a bizarre dream.
In which, two balls of yarn were bouncing back and forth in a crooked room.
Pop! Hop! Bang! Thud!
They jumped and rolled around.
Threads of yarn stuck out.
In no time, the room was in a bunch of chaos.
-
He groaned in the midst,
Running around in the room.
Despite his nightmare,
The night advanced and the silence deepened like always.
Soon after, Zeek wrote a story based on this dream and it was long loved and read by many.
The End
